Coronation Cup Quotes

Graham Motion, winning trainer of Stars Above Me (No. 7): "I was surprised she overcame [the trouble she had], but she really did it very easily. It was very impressive. You always wonder if they're going to overcome [not having a place to run in the stretch], but she did it well. For her European style, it didn't work out so badly. I didn't know if [Irad Ortiz, Jr.] had horse, but it turned out he had plenty."

Did you have any idea what kind of horse she was when she arrived in your barn?: "No, not really. We've kind of had to do a crash course. We've only had her two weeks, but we did get a chance to breeze her over the Oklahoma [training track]. Alice Clapham has been on her; she's done a great job with her. She is pretty wound up in the morning, as you can see by the way she runs. So we got to breeze her, we got to pop her out of the gate one morning; we've gotten to do a lot with her in a short amount of time."

Irad Ortiz, Jr., winning jockey aboard winner Stars Above Me (No. 7): "She felt very, very nice. I thought the trainer did a great job with the filly. They brought her ready. She broke and put me in the race and I waited and waited and waited and waited and at the last second I found somewhere I could ask her to run. In the stretch, as soon as she got clear, she took off."
