JOCKEY SHELDON RUSSELL INJURED IN PADDOCK PRIOR
TO FIRST RACE AT ARLINGTON INTERNATIONAL THURSDAY
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (June 26, 2014) – Jockey Sheldon Russell was taken to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, Ill., following an incident in the paddock involving his scheduled mount Private Prospect prior to the first race at Arlington International Racecourse on Thursday. Russell was conscious and complaining of pain in his left foot.
"He has a broken foot, partial ACL tear and a severe bruise," according to updated information provided by his agent Doug Bredar via text.
The 26-year-old Russell, riding at Arlington on a full-time basis for the first time in 2014, entered Thursday's program in sixth place in the jockey standings with 20 victories.
The horse, a 2-year-old first time starter, was uninjured and went on to win the 4 ½-furlong race under substitute rider Florent Geroux.
