| Wednesday, April 30, 2014 Contact: Jenny Kellner vkellner@nyrainc.com Ten to contest G3 Fort Marcy on Derby Day at Belmont Park ELMONT, N.Y. - The well-travelled Manighar, who has raced throughout France, England and Australia, will make his North American debut Saturday at Belmont Park in the $150,000 Fort Marcy, one of two graded turf stakes on the card that also features the simulcast of the 140th running of the Kentucky Derby from Churchill Downs. Guests can watch and wager on all the racing action from Louisville, with gates opening at 10 a.m. and live racing for Belmont's 12-race card set to begin at noon. Also on Derby Day, students from area schools will be competing for prizes in the first "College Clash Showdown", and guests will receive a refrigerator magnet featuring key events during the Belmont spring/summer meet, which runs through July 13. An 8-year-old gelded son of the French stallion Linamix, Manighar is one of a trio of Fort Marcy entrants from trainer Christophe Clement, who also will saddle multiple stakes winners Speaking of Which, who was sixth in the 2013 Fort Marcy in his first start for Clement, and Summer Front in the 1 1/8-mile race. "Manighar came to us in Florida over the winter - he's a great horse, wonderful character, and very sound," said Clement of the gelding, whose last appearance was in October at Caulfield, where he was 15th in the Group 1 BMW Caulfield Cup. "He probably wants to go further than this, and he might need a race. Obviously, he hasn't run in a while. It's exciting." Speaking of Which has made one start in 2014, finishing third in the Grade 3 Col. E. R. Bradley Hadley at the Fair Grounds on January 18, having closed out his 4-year-old campaign with a victory in the Grade 3 Tropical Turf Handicap at Calder Race Course. "He's a nice horse who's been training well," said Clement of Speaking of Which, who began his career in Ireland. "Like Manighar, it's exciting to see him run here. Florida is nice, but it's good to come back to New York." Clement, who won last year's Fort Marcy with Lubash, added that Summer Front, winner of the Grade 2 Fort Lauderdale on January 11, likely would run only if the course was firm. With Julian Pimentel aboard, Manighar will leave from post position 9 at 15-1 on the morning line. Speaking of Which, 5-1 on the morning line, will be ridden by Junior Alvarado from post position 6 while Summer Front, the 5-2 morning-line favorite, drew post position 3 under new Hall of Famer Alex Solis. Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey, who won the 2012 Fort Marcy with Boisterous, will send out Seal Cove, who returns to Belmont for the first time since a seventh-place finish in the Grade 1 Jamaica Handicap in October 2011. This year, the 6-year-old gelding was fifth and eighth in two optional claiming races at Gulfstream Park, but has been training at Belmont Park since March. "He's doing good; he's been at Belmont for a while," said McGaughey. "He's got two races under his belt this year and 1 1/8 miles should suit him fine." Seal Cove, 20-1 on the morning line, drew post position 2 and will be ridden by Cornelio Velazquez. Another Hall of Fame trainer, Bill Mott, will be represented by a pair of runners: Tertradrachm, who has two seconds, a third and three fourths since winning an optional claimer at Saratoga in his first start for Mott, and Unbridled Ocean, most recently third in an allowance at Keeneland. Tetradrachm (9-2) drew post position 7 under Chris DeCarlo, with Unbridled Ocean and Eddie Castro, 10-1 on the morning line, leaving from post position 2. Rounding out the field are Five Iron, ninth in the Grade 3 Appleton at Gulfstream Park last time out; Ghurair, making his North American bow at 3-1 for trainer Chad Brown; the Barclay Tagg-trained Sky Blazer, 2-1-1 in seven starts at Belmont, and multiple graded stakes winner Swift Warrior, most recently third in the Harrison E.
