ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (April 23, 2014) – A food truck festival, two wine festivals and special days honoring Chicago's top sports teams are just some of the highlights of the special events planned for the 89-day season at Arlington International Racecourse that begins on Friday, May 2.
The special events begin on opening day with free general admission and a coupon good for a hot dog and a 12oz. MillerCoors draft or soda. Opening weekend also includes Chicagoland's Biggest Kentucky Derby Party on Saturday, May 3. The first 1,000 fans through the gates on Derby Day will receive an official Kentucky Derby 140 glass. The Derby Party also includes a hat contest, food and drink specials and one lucky fan will win a $1,000 wager on the Kentucky Derby.
Special Derby Party Zone packages are available and include a 4 ½-hour beer and wine Bar (also includes soda, juice, water), a three-hour buffet, a live DJ, an official Kentucky Derby 140 glass, a Daily Racing Guide, a red carpet entrance with exclusive photo opportunities plus admission and access to the Derby Party Zone in the Marquee Tents.
The following weekend is the return of an Arlington tradition – Mother's Day at the track. The first 5,000 moms through the gate will receive a red rose and throughout the day lucky moms will be chosen to be honored with their families in the Arlington winner's circle. There will be food and beverage specials throughout the facility as well as special all-inclusive packages available in the Governor's Room, International Room, Marquee Tents, Million Room, Silks at 2200 and in the Luxury Suites.
On June 7, Arlington will host the first of two Binny's Taste at the Track events featuring more than 400 varieties of wine and delicious samplings of food and small plate offering. Tickets for this as well as the second Binny's Taste of the Track on Sept. 6 can be purchased online at the track's website www.arlingtonpark.com.
The sky will be illuminated by Chicagoland's biggest Fourth of July fireworks display as part of Arlington's annual Independence Day celebration of Racing, Music and Fireworks featuring live music and entertainment all day and into the night. The first 5,000 fans through the gates will receive a Fourth of July accessory and the first 1,000 children will get a free firecracker popsicle. There will be food and beverage specials throughout the facility as well as special all-inclusive packages available in the International Room, Million Room, Marquee Tents and Silks at 2200.
The Food Truck Festival presented by the Daily Herald returns to Arlington on Saturday, July 12 with food trucks in the Park Area from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Since it is also Million Preview Day featuring top turf horses prepping for the Arlington Million and International Festival of Racing, the first 2,000 fans through the gate will receive an official Arlington Million baseball cap.
FireZone First Responders Day featuring the Gary Sinise Foundation is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 3 when Arlington pays tribute to local service men and women and help support the 9/11 Remembrance Rescue Project.
Since there's no better sports town than Chicago it is only fitting that Arlington honors its teams beginning with Chicago Cubs Day on Sunday, May 25.
