I dazzle gets chance to bloom again in red camelia
By Graham Ross, Staff Writer
I Dazzle, now trained by Mike Stidham, won her local bow by 1 ¼-lengths over good ground after being absent from competition since last August 23 at Del Mar when she finished third in the $90.000 CTT Thoroughbred Owners of California Stakes. Earlier in 2013, the daughter of Hold That Tiger won Santa Anita’s $75,000 American Beauty over California grass and finished third in Hollywood’s Grade II Marge Everett over synthetic going.
Ladyzarbridge, of course, is far more familiar to Fair Grounds fans, mostly for winning three out of the last four Louisiana Champions Day Ladies Stakes. The 7-year-old mare is trained by co-owner Eddie Johnston, pressed the pace in last year’s Red Camelia but gave way to finish sixth at the wire after being interfered with after a half.
Cantrell Family Partnership’s Tensas Harbor, conditioned by Keith Desormeaux, could be dangerous here. She won Delta’s $150,000 Premier Distaff at last asking Feb. 1 but was beaten a neck by Ladyzarbridge in the $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Ladies Dec. 14.
Randy Davis’s Divine Lorretta won last year’s Red Camelia and then finished second by a neck in the $50,000 Honeymoon Stakes June 1 at Louisiana Downs, but in her last start when she lost to I Dazzle March 1 she finished seventh beaten almost 10 lengths by the winner. She is trained by Sweet Hodges.
Seven-time Fair Grounds jockey champion Robby Albarado gets the mount on I Dazzle, Ladyzarbridge will be ridden by Richard Eramia, Tensas Harbor has regular rider Mark Guidry named and Divine Lorretta has James Graham slated for the saddle.
John Bell et al.’s Ashley B. was made a supplementary nomination to Saturday’s Red Camelia by trainer Brian House. She opened her career with two wins at Delta Downs more than a year ago, however, she has not reached the winner’s circle in five starts since then. Miguel Mena will be aboard.
Completing the field is Richard Davis’s Miss Goodthing, Shaun Bridgmohan; Millennium Farms’ Great Mills High, Leandro Goncalves; Sandra Duke’s Dreamglider, Roman Chapa; Valene Farms’ Ante Up Annie, Brian Hernandez Jr; and Oak Leaf’s She Loves Runnin’; Chris Landeros.
