Nina Khan's "Grand Mondays" selection runs second

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - Nina Khan, 57, won The New York Racing Assocation, Inc.'s (NYRA) ninth "Grand Mondays" promotion, which rewards one lucky fan with a $1,000 win wager on a horse of his or her choosing in that day's eighth race.

Khan, a service representative from Franklin Square, N.Y., did not expect to attend the races on Monday, but was persuaded by a group of friends to tag along. Her last-minute decision nearly saw her walk away with $2,000 when her selection, Antipathy (No. 1), finished second in the day's featured race.

The Kiaran McLaughlin-trained filly stalked the early pace set by Natalie Victoria and put a head in front turning for home, but ultimately succumbed to the resurgent pacesetter, finishing two lengths behind the winner and 11 ½ lengths clear of the third-place finisher.

"Grand Mondays" will be back again next Monday, March 31, for the final time before racing reverts back to a Wednesday-Sunday schedule in April.
