mucho mans gold heads sarah lane’s oates

NEW ORLEANS (Thursday, February 14, 2013) – Carole Rio and Margaret Barton’s Mucho Mans Gold, who returned to the state where she was bred to win a restricted $30,000 optional claiming test at Fair Grounds Jan. 27, has been installed as a slight 5-2 morning line favorite for Saturday’s 10th renewal of the $60,000 Sarah Lane’s Oates Stakes at the Crescent City oval. The race at about one mile over the Stall-Wilson Turf Course is restricted to sophomore fillies that are accredited Louisiana-breds.
In her local debut Mucho Mans Gold was placed just behind the early leaders, challenged for command entering the stretch and drew off the rest of the way for a 3 1/4-length tally.
Now trained by Bret Calhoun, Mucho Mans Gold began her career in South Florida and had broken her maiden at previous asking last Nov. 16 when under the tutelage of Bill White.
Two-time Fair Grounds defending jockey champion and current leading rider Rosie Napravnik, aboard for her Louisiana debut, will be in the saddle once again on Saturday.
Capable of providing strong competition for Mucho Mans Gold is Valene Farms’ Ante Up Annie, second choice in the early line at 3-1 and another filly who is coming off of two straight wins, both recorded here at Fair Grounds. The Dallas Stewart trainee last visited the winner’s on Jan. 13 and will be ridden once again by Brian Hernandez Jr.
Not to be discounted in the Sarah Lane’s Oates is Brittlyn Stable’s Yes Sir, next in the early odds at 4-1. She is trained by Ron Faucheux, and will be ridden by jockey James Graham who was in the irons when she broke her maiden by 4 3/ 4-lengths here Dec. 27.
Completing the Sarah Lane’s Oates field, with jockeys and odds, is Judith Bell’s Ashley B., Kevin Smith (6-1); Sandra Duke’s Dreamglider, Leandro Goncalves at 8-1; Vincente Rodarte’s Graustarkian, Donnie Meche (8-1); Picard Thoroughbred Racing Stable’s Cat Who Dat, Kerwin Clark (12-1); and Allan Peterson’s Jilliandollarbaby, Richard Eramia (12-1).
