NEW ORLEANS (Sunday, February 10, 2013) – Charles Matses’ Scat About, placed just behind the early leaders, commenced a rally along the inside when set down for the drive in Sunday’s $47,000 allowance feature at Fair Grounds and got up in the last strides to best Cindy and Larry Jones’s Reason to Be Proud by a head.

The latter, always in the first flight, gained the advantage on the outside at the furlong grounds, could not withstand the winner late but was clearly second best.

Scat About, trained by Danny Peitz and ridden by Leandro Goncalves, returned mutuels of $8, $4 and $2.40, toured the nine furlongs in 1:53.10 and increased his career earnings to $109,854 with his second victory in 15 lifetime starts.

Reason to Be Proud paid $5.60 and $3.40 for second, finishing 1 3/4-lengths in front of Chicago 8’s At the Pulpit, who returned $3.20 to show.

Jay Em Ess Stable’s Bold Front set early fractions of 24.68 and 49.88 before weakening after the eighth pole.

Racing resumes Tuesday at Fair Grounds for a special nine-race program featuring the $75,000 Mardi Gras Stakes.  Post time for Mardi Gras Day is 1 p. m.
