NEW ORLEANS (Monday, January 21, 2013) – Jerry Jamgotchian’s Prettyhotprincess, away alertly and quickly in command, made the pace with early splits of 23.06 and 47.06 in Monday’s $45,000 feature for maiden sophomore fillies and continued with good courage late to withstand Brereton Jones’s Give Her Space by three-quarters of a length at the wire.
Ridden by James Graham and trained by Eric Reed, the daughter of Stormy Atlantic toured the 5 1/2- furlongs of the sprint transferred to the main track in 1:05.86, increased her career earnings to $36,290 with her initial win from three career starts and returned mutuels of $9.40, $3.20 and $2.40.
Give Her Space pressed the pace of the winner throughout, could not match that one but gamely held the place, paying $3 and $2.10 while finishing three-quarters of a length in front of Dale Ladner’s Distinct Sparkle, who paid $3.40 to show.
Racing resumes Thursday at Fair Grounds with a nine-race program beginning at 1 p.m.
