NEW ORLEANS (Sunday, January 20, 2013) – B G Havari’s Bigantlers paid big at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots in Sunday’s second race – lighting up the tote board with a $228.80 win price. It was the largest straight payoff so far in Fair Grounds’ 2012-2013 racing season – in fact, eight dollars more than Raut LLC’s Hero of Order paid when winning the $1 million Louisiana Derby as the highest win price last season.

Unhurried early on Sunday, Bigantlers rallied strongly when set down for the drive and drew off for a 4 1/4-length score at the wire.

Trained by Ioannis Kolibos, who was saddling his first winner of the season, Bigantlers was ridden by jockey Denny Velazquez, whose last winning ride at Fair Grounds came aboard an ostrich in an exhibition race January 12 at the Crescent City oval.

“I thought the horse had a good shot last time,” said Kolibos of Bigantlers’ previous start where he finished 10th, “but then he just stopped. I only changed jockeys today because the other boy wasn’t here. He missed out.”

Racing resumes Monday at Fair Grounds with a special nine-race holiday program. First post is 1 p.m.
