STORM TUNER BATTLES FOR TURF SPRINT SCORE
OKLAHOMA CITY – Storm Tuner won the pace battle and the race in Wednesday’s $30,000 allowance/optional claiming feature at Remington Park.
Owned by Leon Bauerle of Dilley, Texas and trained by Ralph Arnold, Jr., Storm Tuner was hustled away from the starting gate by Glen Murphy, engaging Rich Jewel at the front of the 10-horse field in the five-furlong turf sprint. Storm Tuner managed to put Rich Jewel away in late stretch, then drew clear of Council Oak to win by 1-1/4 lengths in :56.35 seconds over the firm surface.
Storm Tuner was 7-2 in the wagering and paid $9.80 to win, $4.80 to place and $4 to show. Council Oak was the 3-1 betting favorite and paid $3.60 to place and $3.60 to show. Rich Jewel held on for third and paid $3.80 to show.
The win was the 10th from 38 career starts for Storm Tuner, an Arkansas-bred 5-year-old gelding by Storm And A Half from the Tunerup mare Tunita. It was his first Remington Park win, earning $17,745 for the effort to move his lifetime bankroll to $136,143.
Storm Tuner was claimed out of the race as he was entered for an $18,000 price tag. Black Hawk Stable of Elk City, Okla. is the new owner with Chris Hartman training.
The race atop the Remington Park jockey standings continues to be a heated affair as Cliff Berry and Luis Quinonez share the lead with 21 wins. Berry brought a one-win lead into Wednesday and managed a single victory while Quinonez scored a pair to force the tie.
