LOUIE THE LIP MEASURES PACE WELL, RELISHES SLOPPY GOING FOR ANOTHER WIN
OKLAHOMA CITY – Louie The Lip won his only career race over a main track surface that was not labeled fast. Thursday night at Remington Park in the $30,000 allowance feature, he had got to romp in the slop in gaining his second career score.
Owned by Nelson McMakin and Fred Dolezal of Carroll, Iowa, Louie The Lip is trained by Doug Anderson and was ridden by Alex Birzer. After dueling with Cross Hammers for much of the six furlongs, Louie The Lip had something left to put that rival away and fend off a late challenge by Tiz Mine to win by 1-1/4 lengths. Cross Hammers held third.
Louie The Lip crossed the finish in 1:11.74 over the sloppy going as the main track was soaked by afternoon rains that continued throughout the 10-race card. A 3-year-old gelding, Louie The Lip left the starting gate at 7-2 odds and paid $9.80 to win, $2.80 to place and $2.40 to show. Tiz Mine was the wagering favorite at 4-5 odds and paid $2.60 to place and $2.40 to show. Cross Hammers paid $2.80 to show.
A Kentucky-bred son of Mancini from the Louis Quatorze mare Waltzing Balla, Louie The Lip won his second lifetime race and his first at Remington Park. The $17,949 winner’s share boosted his overall earnings to $46,514.
Jockey Cliff Berry won one race Thursday, the ninth aboard Soft Blush ($5 to win). It was his 17th win on the season and placed him into a tie for the lead in the jockey standings with Luis Quinonez.
Remington Park racing continues Friday and Saturday with the action starting nightly at 6:30pm. The $50,000 Remington Park Turf Sprint on Friday night is the featured stakes race this week.
Open daily at 10am for casino gaming and simulcast racing, Remington Park features the Bricktown Brewery on the casino floor. Admission, general parking and valet parking are always free at Remington Park.
