CAT FIVE’ O OPENS UP IN OPEN COMPANY THURSDAY AT REMINGTON
OKLAHOMA CITY – After facing her own kind in the first two races of her career in Iowa, Cat Five’ O made her initial open company race one to remember. The 2-year-old filly drew clear to win by three lengths in the $31,000 allowance feature at Remington Park on Thursday.
Owned by Lane Thoroughbreds of Council Bluffs, Iowa and trained by Clinton Stuart, Cat Five’ O was ridden beautifully by apprentice jockey Garrett Steinberg. Tracking the early leader, My Daughter’s Song, through the first half-mile of the race, Cat Five’ O was angled off the rail at the top of the stretch for clear sailing. She caught the leader just inside the furlong pole and pulled away for the score, stopping the clock in 1:11.43 over the sloppy track.
Cat Five’ O broke her maiden at first asking and then finished third in the Iowa Sorority Stakes at Prairie Meadows in Altoona, Iowa this summer. Both of the events were against fellow Iowa-breds. The 18-1 longshot relished the off track on Thursday night and had no troubles in winning her first event against open rivals.
Cat Five’ O paid $38.40 to win, $14 to place and $6.60 to show. She Loves Runnin’ was second and paid $8.80 to place and $5 to show. My Daughter’s Song held third to pay $3.40 to show.
Tastefullyxcessive was the beaten wagering favorite, running seventh at 5-2 odds.
The second win from three starts was worth $18,396 to Cat Five’ O. Bred in Iowa by her owners, she is by Pleasantly Perfect from the Elusive Quality mare Triple O’ Five. She now boasts a bankroll of $48,006.
Jockey Luis Quinonez won two races Thursday to give him 25 wins for the season and open his lead over Cliff Berry to three in the standings.
