THIRD CHANCE BEATS THE BOYS IN ADDISON CAMMACK STAKES
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (Sept. 22, 2012) – In her 20-race career, Ron Magers & Bob Marcocchio et al’s Third Chance has won in state-bred restricted races as well as in open company. One thing she had yet to do was beat male rivals but the daughter of Kafwain was able to knock that off her bucket list with an emphatic 6 ¾-length tally in the $66,400 Addison Cammack Stakes on Saturday at Arlington Park.
With leading rider Francisco Torres in the irons, the Jim DiVito-trained 4-year-old filly led from start to finish, covering the six furlongs in 1:10.23 after setting fractions of 22.18 seconds, 45.15 seconds and 57.28 seconds along the way.
“She looked really good out there today,” said co-owner Magers, the ABC-7 Chicago news anchorman. “She’s always done everything we’ve ever asked of her. We’ve had such a great year at Arlington. We’ve been treated so well by everybody and we’re going to miss coming here with her.”
Saturday’s victory kept Third Chance’s 2012 record unblemished with four victories in as many trips to post. She added $39,840 to her bankroll to push it near the half-million dollar mark at $484,464 while improving her overall record to 10 wins from 19 starts. According to co-owner Magers, she will make one more start in her career (the $125,000 Powerless Stakes at Hawthorne Race Course on Oct. 20) before being bred next year to City Zip.
Sir Applesolutely was second in the five-horse field. It was another 2 ½ lengths back to Hoodwinked. Smiling Gambler, the other filly in the race, ran fourth with Van Demon finishing fish.
Third Chance paid $3, $2.20 and $2.10. Sir Applesolutely returned $3.20 and $2.10. Hoodwinked $2.10.
