THIRD CHANCE TOP CHOICE IN SATURDAY’S ADDISON CAMMACK STAKES
Ron Magers and Bob Marcocchio et al.’s Third Chance, heroine of Arlington’s $112,125 Isaac Murphy Handicap on Prairie State Festival Day June 16, puts her three-race victory skein on the line Saturday when she faces four geldings and one other filly in Saturday’s Arlington feature, the inaugural running of Arlington’s $65,000 Addison Cammack Stakes.
The Addison Cammack, named in honor of Chicago’s late locally-revered horse transportation agent, is a six-furlong sprint restricted to 3-year-olds and up that are Illinois registered, conceived and/or foaled.
In her last start Aug. 26 in a five-furlong optional $80,000 claiming dash originally scheduled for the turf but run on the Polytrack, the speedy Third Chance showed her tactical side, demonstrating that she could be rated before launching her bid in the final furlong to register a 2 1/4-length tally. Her previous score came in the Isaac Murphy, but before that she captured Hawthorne’s $118,000 Governor’s Lady Handicap April 28.
Jockey Francisco Torres, the Chicago-raised reins master who is on his way to his first Arlington jockey championship at 43 years of age, has been named to ride Third Chance for trainer Jimmy DiVito. The daughter of Kafwain has been installed as the 7-5 choice in the morning line.
Capable of providing strong competition for Third Chance is Dean Pantaleo’s Roarin Missile, a front-running 5-year-old gelding who last visited the winner’s circle when racing for a $22,500 tag May 25 at Arlington, but impressed again in Arlington’s $112,125 White Oak Handicap on Prairie State Festival Day when he gave way grudgingly in the last strides to finish third while only beaten a half-length for all the money.
Pegged as the 2-1 second choice in the Addison Cammack early line, Roarin Missile’s trainer Michael Mokry has Diego Sanchez slated for the saddle.

Not to be discounted in Saturday’s feature is the Chris Block-trained team of Team Block’s Hoodwinked and Hill n Dale Farm’s Sir Applesolutely, 7-2 and 4-1 respectively in the Addison Cammack morning line.
Hoodwinked, a homebred 5-year-old gelding by Successful Appeal, has finished on the board in his last six starts but only one win to his credit during that time. Regular rider Eddie Perez will be in the irons.
Sir Applesolutely, an altered sophomore son of Henny Hughes, is undefeated in his two career starts but will be stepping up in competition this weekend. Arlington’s defending jockey champion James Graham, a solid second in the jockey standings this season, has been named to handle the reins.
Completing the Addison Cammack field is Nicole Mitchell’s Smiling Gambler, the only other filly in the race who is trained by Tony Mitchell and will have Rosemary Homeister Jr. astride at 15-1, and John Haran Jr.’s 30-1 longshot Van Demon, conditioned by Haran with jockey E. T. Baird named.
WEDNESDAY WINS AT KENTUCKY DOWNS FOR SCHERER, LANTZ & LOVELL
Arlington-based conditioner Richie Scherer and jockey Jesse Lantz combined their talents to win Wednesday’s first race at Kentucky Downs with Scherer’s Lead the Way, and trainer Michelle Lovell, who has horses stabled at Arlington for the first time this season, saddled Agave Racing Stable’s Monono to win Wednesday’s fifth race over that same Kentucky grass course.
