Description

·        12-time All-Star and five-time World Series champion Mariano Rivera paid a visit to Saratoga Race Course on Friday, August 10.

·        The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) named the day’s third race “The Spa Welcomes Mo!” in honor of Rivera, who appeared in the winner’s circle to address the crowd and present the trophy for his eponymous race.

·        Rivera visited Saratoga Race Course after hosting a fundraiser at Siro’s Trattoria in Saratoga Springs, NY, to benefit the Mariano Rivera Foundation.

·        Since opening its gates in 1863, Saratoga Race Course has welcomed champion thoroughbreds, renowned trainers, world-class jockeys and top celebrities – making it one of the nation’s most beloved destinations. A truly unique summer oasis nestled in the foothills of the Adirondacks, Saratoga Race Course was named one of the world’s top 10 sports venues by Sports Illustrated and ranked in the same company as Rivera’s baseball home for nearly two decades, Yankee Stadium.

·        Rivera is regarded as the most dominant relief pitcher in baseball history. The man known as “Mo” has handcuffed batters with his legendary cut fast ball on the way to becoming baseball’s greatest postseason pitcher. In 2011, Rivera set the record for career regular-season saves which currently stands at 608. Rivera is recovering from knee surgery following a season-ending injury in May.
