JL STRAIGHT ARROW WINS FEATURE, ESTABLISHES PAINT RECORD
OKLAHOMA CITY – The 220-yard distance is rarely run at Remington Park during the American Quarter Horse & Mixed-breed Season. It had never been contested for a Paint & Appaloosa race until Thursday evening when JL Straight Arrow powered to victory by three-quarter lengths.
Owned by Maria Gutierrez of Sallisaw, Okla. and trained by Guillermo Valdivia, JL Straight Arrow was ridden by Alex Baldillez. The 3-year-old gelding covered the 220 yards in :11.868 seconds over a fast surface to establish the Remington Park record for Paints at the distance.
Jacis Flashy Girl was second with Flashen Oakie another head behind in third.
Away at 9-2 odds in the wagering, JL Straight Arrow returned $11.20 to win, $6.80 to place and $4 to show. Jacis Flashy Girl returned $8.20 to place and $5.60 to show. Flashen Oakie paid $6.20 to show. Quick Dashin Cowgirl was the beaten wagering favorite at 2-1 odds, running fifth.
An Oklahoma-bred Paint by Separate Rainbow (qh) from the Treasured Too mare A Fair Treasure, JL Straight Arrow won his third career race from seven starts while scoring for the first time at Remington Park. The winner’s share of $10,930 moves his lifetime earnings to $28,060.
Friday night features the first of two evenings of trials for the $1,000,000 Heritage Place Futurity. The five fastest 2-year-olds from Friday and Saturday in the 350-yard heats will move on to the lucrative final on May 28. The first live race on Friday is at 6pm.
Remington Park opens at 9am Friday for early simulcast racing from Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. The Kentucky Oaks will be featured in Friday simulcasting and advance wagering will be offered on Saturday’s Kentucky Derby.
Open daily at 10am for casino gaming, Remington Park also features Henry Hudson’s on the first floor, which opens for lunch at 11am. Admission, general parking and valet parking are always free at Remington Park.
