VELASQUEZ LEADS SPRING MEET JOCKEY STANDINGS FOLLOWING BIG DAY AT AQUEDUCT

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Cornelio Velasquez holds a two-win advantage in the spring meet jockey standings after winning four races on Thursday at Aqueduct Racetrack.

Trailing David Cohen by one entering Thursday’s card, Velasquez drove Gold Is Good ($15.00) past Mr. Grievance to take the opening race by 1 ½ lengths. Fifth in Race 2, Velasquez rebounded with a seven-length romp aboard Frazil ($4.70) in Race 3, the $26,000 Piping Hot starter handicap, and a 5 ¾-length triumph in Race 4 with Camie’s Boy ($7.70). The $2 all-Velasquez rolling Daily Double paid $33.40, with both horses having been saddled by Linda Rice.

Without a mount in Race 5, Velasquez picked up his last victory of the day in Race 6, guiding Empire Express ($6.80) to a front-running, three-quarter length-triumph. Velasquez finished eighth in Race 8 with Quick Money.

Velasquez has won 11 races since the spring meet began on March 30, with Cohen in second with nine wins. Ramon Dominguez, who completed a two-day suspension today, is tied with Eddie Castro for third with six victories.

On Saturday, Aqueduct Racetrack will host the Grade 1, $1 million Resorts World New York Casino Wood Memorial, which has attracted 2010 Champion Two-Year-Old Male and current Kentucky Derby favorite Uncle Mo, who is unbeaten in four starts. The track also will present the Grade 1 Carter Handicap, Grade 3 Bay Shore, and Grade 3 Comely and offer a $500,000 Guaranteed All Graded Stakes Pick Four.
