PREAKNESS FASHION SHOW THIS SATURDAY

Preakness and Macy’s Are Tickled Pink!

BALTIMORE, 04-26-11---The Maryland Jockey Club announced today it has teamed up with Macy’s for a Fashion Show in the Center Court at White Marsh Mall on Saturday, April 30, beginning at 1 p.m. Preceding the Tickled Pink! event will be a Health Fair from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Proceeds benefit the Maryland Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®.

Kis Agency models, breast cancer survivors, including Lady Legends rider Mary Wiley Wagner, and local celebrities such as Howard County native and Buffalo Bills linebacker Aaron Maybin will hit the runway in the season’s hottest designs and hats, featuring the color pink, to help showcase what to wear to this year’s 136th Preakness® Stakes on Saturday, May 21. WJZ-TV’s Marty Bass will emcee.

Pimlico Race Course partners with Komen Maryland for the return of The People’s Pink Party to raise funds aiding awareness and research for breast cancer on Black-Eyed Susan Day, Friday, May 20. Highlights include the second annual Lady Legends For the Cure Race™, the inaugural Female Jockey Challenge and the welcoming of 87 breast cancer survivor guests for festivities that will culminate in a special winners’ circle tribute. Pimlico will donate 10% of all Friday Turfside Terrace ticket sales, including the Friday portion of the two-day Preakness ticket, to Komen Maryland. The Preakness eve card features seven stakes races, six for fillies and mares, headlined by the Grade II Black-Eyed Susan Stakes. For tickets, log onto http://www.preakness.com/tickets/seating-information/turfside-terrace.

Saturday’s activities are free and open to the public. Friends and family discounts, offering 25% off total purchases will apply to most items. Raffle drawings will include tickets to Black-Eyed Susan Day, one of the Show’s designer hats, a Macy’s gift card, and an Estée Lauder makeover. The Health Fair welcomes screenings, fitness & nutrition tips, cooking demonstrations, music and more. For details on the Tickled Pink! Fashion Show, plus additional information on The People’s Pink Party visit http://www.preakness.com/peoples-pink-party.

“This is a fun way to kick off the second year of our partnership with Susan G. Komen For the Cure,” said Maryland Jockey Club president Tom Chuckas, who will be one of the celebrity models. “For anyone who wants to check out what to wear at Preakness and support a wonderful organization, Macy’s White Marsh is the place to be Saturday.”

Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer. In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure and it launched the global breast cancer movement. Today, the organization is the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors.

Seventy-five percent of the funds raised from The People’s Pink Party will go to the Komen Maryland Affiliate to use for community outreach programs in Maryland and twenty-five percent will be used for life-saving breast cancer research.

“Komen Maryland is proud to partner with the Maryland Jockey Club and Macy’s for the Tickled Pink! Fashion Show to promote Black Eyed Susan Day at Pimlico,” said Robin Prothro, executive director of Komen Maryland. “Third party partnerships like this are our second largest source of revenue, providing us the ability to grant fund nearly $2.5 million to 29 breast cancer programs locally and throughout Maryland in 2011 alone and help women, men and families in our community that have been touched by this disease.”

The next stop for The People’s Pink Party will be the second annual “Down the Stretch for SGK” Preakness 5K on Saturday, May 14. The entire race will take place on the grounds of Pimlico Race Course, including one lap around the legendary dirt course, where champion thoroughbreds like Secretariat and Seabiscuit once ran.
