six FAIR GROUNDS HORSES LINING UP FOR KENTUCKY DERBY

NEW ORLEANS (Monday, April 18, 2011) – Five horses that raced at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots during the recently concluded 139th Thoroughbred Racing Season – Louisiana Derby winner Pants On Fire, Risen Star Stakes hero Mucho Macho Man, Louisiana Derby runner-up Nehro, Sugar Bowl Stakes winner Archarcharch and Risen Star fifth Decisive Moment – are considered “likely” to make their next start in the May 7 Kentucky Derby, according to Churchill Downs officials. A sixth Fair Grounds alumnus, Risen Star runner-up Santiva, is on the cusp of drawing into the 20-horse field, which is determined by graded stakes earnings.

One of Fair Grounds’ most popular jockeys also is expected to appear in the Kentucky Derby, the world’s most famous horse race held annually on the first Saturday in May at Churchill Downs, flagship property of Fair Grounds’ parent company, Churchill Downs Incorporated. Rosie Napravnik, the first female to ever lead the rider standings at Fair Grounds with 110 wins this season, will retain the mount on Pants On Fire, trainer Kelly Breen confirmed earlier this month. Other local riders with possible mounts include Kerwin Clark, eighth in the Fair Grounds standings last season and likely to retain the call on Decisive Moment, and Robby Albarado, seven-time leading rider at Fair Grounds, who could ride Twinspired if the Blue Grass Stakes runner-up makes the field.
