NO LIVE RACING AT BELMONT PARK ON FRIDAY; SIMULCASTING, TELEBET AND INTERNET WAGERING AVAILABLE
ELMONT, N.Y. – Due to heavy rainfall, flooding, and winds, there will be no live racing at Belmont Park on Friday, October 1. However, the track will be open for simulcasting and NYRA Rewards telebet and internet wagering will be available. Admission and parking will be free for customers coming to Belmont for the simulcast card.
Belmont will have live racing on Saturday, October 2, including five Grade 1 stakes. The Saturday card features the 93rd running of the Jockey Club Gold Cup Invitational. Among others, the race includes Blame, winner of five straight graded races including the Grade 1 Whitney Handicap at Saratoga Race Course in his most recent start, Rail Trip, a multiple graded winner trying conventional dirt for the first time, and Fly Down, runner-up in the Grade 1 Belmont Stakes and the Grade 1 Travers for Hall of Fame trainer Nick Zito.
Additional Grade 1 races on Saturday are the $500,000 Flower Bowl Invitational for fillies and mares going 1 ¼ miles on the turf, the $500,000 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational for 3-year-olds and up going 1 ½ miles on the turf, the $350,000 Beldame for fillies and mares at 1 1/8 miles on the main track, and the $350,000 Vosburgh for 3-year-olds and up going six furlongs on the main track.
Fans at Belmont on Saturday will receive a free baseball cap in celebration of the biggest day of racing during the fall championship meet, with paid admission, while supplies last.
NYRA is also offering a $500,000 Guaranteed All-Grade 1 Pick 4 on Saturday, comprising the Flower Bowl, Beldame, Joe Hirsch Turf Classic, and Jockey Club Gold Cup.
