JES A GAME wins mid city stakes

NEW ORLEANS (Saturday, September 18, 2010) – Tony Doughtie’s Jes a Game led throughout to win Saturday’s featured $40,000 Mid City Stakes by a half-length over Heza Jodys Toast at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots. Ridden by Bobby Ransom, the 4-year-old Game Patriot filly covered the 400-yard distance in :19.979 and earned a Speed Index of 102.

“This is a good mare,” said winning trainer Kenneth Roberts Sr., who notched his second stakes win of the meet. “This is the best she’s trained since I’ve had her and I’ve had her since she was a baby.”

Jes a Game paid $8.60 to win as the second choice and increased her career earnings to $203,010. Roberts indicated she would start next in a stakes race at this fall’s Evangeline Downs meet before being pointed for Louisiana Champions Day at Fair Grounds on Dec. 11.

Toast to Streakin finished third in the field of six older Louisiana-bred Quarter Horses.

Martini Mountain was scratched from the Mid City on the same day he was entered for next Saturday’s $40,000 Fair Grounds Challenge on closing day of the Quarter Horse Racing Season.

Live racing at Fair Grounds resumes Tuesday with a first post of 12:40 p.m. CDT.
