SHARP LOCAL DEBUT FOR BRICKYARD FAST STAMPS HIM AS EARLY CONTENDER FOR SPRINGBOARD
OKLAHOMA CITY – Remington Park features a series of stakes races for 2-year-olds for the first time this fall, beginning next month with the Kip Deville Stakes and culminating with the $250,000 Springboard Mile in December. After his performance Wednesday night, Brickyard Fast is an early consideration for the series.
Owned by Baccari Racing Stable, LLC of Lexington, Ky. and trained by Joe Petalino, Brickyard Fast won Wednesday’s optional allowance feature for 2-year-olds that carried a purse of $29,400. Ridden with confidence by Bryan McNeil, Brickyard Fast was maneuvered around the lone turn with a rail trip before finding a path between rivals at the top of the stretch. The keen ride helped Brickyard Fast pull away to a 2-1/2 length score over Pulgarcito, the beaten even-money favorite. Check It Out was third in the field of seven.
Brickyard Fast covered the six furlongs over a fast track in 1:10.55.
Away at 7-5 odds, Brickyard Fast paid $4.80 to win, $2.80 to place and $2.80 to show. Pulgarcito returned $2.60 to place and $2.80 to show. Check It Out paid $5.20 to show.
The win was the first at Remington Park for Brickyard Fast, a Kentucky-bred colt by Sharp Humor from the Cure the Blues mare Arboresque. He triumphed for the second time in four career attempts and earned $17,010 in the process. Overall, Brickyard Fast has now made $38,570.
The win aboard Brickyard Fast was the second on the night for McNeil who also posted a victory with Wholelotatricks ($6 to win) in the third race. The double moves McNeil into a tie atop the jockey standings with Cliff Berry, both with 16 wins to their credit.
The Remington Park Thoroughbred Season resumes Thursday night at 6:30pm and continues this week thru Saturday. The Thoroughbred Season concludes Dec. 11.
Remington Park is open daily at 10am for casino gaming and simulcast racing. The 22nd Oklahoma Derby will be contested on Sunday, Oct. 10.
