SHANIA TWANG STRETCHES OUT FOR FIRST WIN AT 1 MILE

OKLAHOMA CITY – Just two weeks ago, Shania Twang made her first start of the Remington Park season, finishing third in an allowance race for Oklahoma-breds at six furlongs. Tonight, she faced state-breds going one mile to win at the longer distance for the first time in her career.

Owned and trained by Laura Hobbs of Grand Island, Neb., Shania Twang used her solid finish on Aug. 20 as a good prep event to go longer and win tonight’s $33,200 allowance feature under jockey John Lejeune.

Making a rally from next-to-last after a half-mile was complete, Shania Twang moved quickly toward the front coming off the final turn. The 5-year-old mare made the lead late in the stretch and pulled away to win by 1-1/4 lengths in 1:38.37 over a fast track. She has attempted mile races five times previously in her career with just one third-place finish to her credit.

She’s All In was second as the beaten 8-5 wagering favorite with Molly Will Pass another two lengths back in third.

Away from the starting gate at 3-1 odds, Shania Twang paid $8.20 to win, $3.40 to place and $3 to show. She’s All In returned $3 to place and $2.40 to show. Molly Will Pass paid $4.20 to show.

The triumph was the third from 21 career starts for Shania Twang with all three lifetime victories taking place at Remington Park. She earned $19,315 for the win to run her overall bankroll to $93,301. Shania Twang is a daughter of Maghnatis from the Timebank mare Okie Twang.

The Thoroughbred Season continues Saturday with nine races beginning at 6:30pm. Remington Park will not offer live racing on Sunday before returning with a special holiday program on Labor Day Monday, Sept. 6 starting at 1:30pm.
