S C KING OF HEARTS RALLIES FOR LONGSHOT WIN, ZIMMERMAN TRIPLES FOR SECOND STRAIGHT NIGHT
OKLAHOMA CITY – S C King of Hearts provided big payoffs in the $33,200 state-bred Allowance feature prevailing as the longest shot on the board in the nine-horse field Saturday at Remington Park.
Owned by J T Racing of Springdale, Arkansas and trained by Mike Teel, S C King of Hearts took on many of the same rivals he faced in his first start of the Remington Park season on August 25 where he was placed fourth through a disqualification. Settling off a brisk pace, jockey Ramsey Zimmerman brought S C King of Hearts just off the pace for the win.
The three-year-old gelding waited out the fractions of :22.11 for the opening quarter and :45.37 for the half mile set by the dueling trio of Silver Flicka, Ninilchik and Chisholm Trail to take the lead entering the stretch. S C King of Hearts held off the late challenge from Unome’s Kandiman to win by a length finishing the 6-1/2 furlongs in 1:16.80. Smokin Armadillo closed for distant third 5-3/4 lengths back.
S C King of Hearts was sent off at odds of 39-1 paying $80.40 to win, $19.80 to place and $9.60 to show. Unome’s Kandiman returned $3.40 to place and $2.40 to show. Smokin Armadillo paid $3.60 to show.
The victory was the third this year for the Oklahoma-bred son of Island City from the Noble Assembly mare Noble Paige in only five starts in 2010. S C King of Hearts lifetime record stands at three wins from eight career outings. The winner’s share of $19,270 brings his career total to $43,098.
Zimmerman ended the night with a win in the night cap for a riding triple, giving the 28-year-old his second straight three win night. Along with the win aboard S C King of Hearts, Zimmerman scored in the sixth race with Rite to Rule ($7.40 to win) and in the ninth race on Schramsberg ($10 to win).
The surge in the win column has moved Zimmerman into a tie for second in the jockey standings with Bryan McNeil at 14 wins each. Jockey Cliff Berry leads the colony with 16 wins.
