PLEASANT STORM KEEPS REMINGTON RECORD PERFECT IN A THRILLING STRETCH RUN, QUINONEZ TRIPLES

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma-bred Perfect Storm won his third local race in as many starts Saturday night at Remington Park. The featured $42,350 Allowance event could have punched the ticket for an Oklahoma Derby start next month for Perfect Storm.

Owned by Vickie Fixley of Oklahoma City, OK and trained by Joe Petalino, Perfect Storm was ridden to the win by Bryan McNeil who has ridden the colt in all but one of his six career starts. McNeil guided Perfect Storm through some comfortable fractions set by Joy’s Paradise to make a thrilling stretch run and get to the wire a half-length in front.

The son of Pleasant Tap from the Stormin Fever mare Burning Fever broke from the six post, forcing the him wide into the first turn of the mile race. McNeil quickly took Pleasant Storm back to save ground in his custom position off the pace. The fractions of :24.34 for the quarter-mile and :48.03 for the half mile saw Pleasant Storm four lengths behind while waiting to make his move at the three-eighth’s pole. Pleasant Storm was asked for his late running move in the turn, forcing McNeil to take him five-wide entering the stretch but the wide trip proved to not be a factor.

Pleasant Storm made a big late move to run down Joy’s Paradise who grudgingly gave up the first position late in the stretch returning $5.40 to win, $3.80 to place and $2.80 to show. Joy’s Paradise paid $8.80 to show and $3.20 to place. Holiday Buzz finished at closing third returning $2.80 to show.

The score was the first of the year for Pleasant Storm who was victorious in the Oklahoma Classics Juvenile last year at Remington Park. This was the third career win from six lifetime starts for Pleasant Storm. The winner’s share of $26,305 makes the career total stand at $104,511.

The win by McNeil give the 26-year-old jockey 20 wins on the season which remains in a deadlock with Cliff Berry at the top of the jockey standings.

Jockey Luis Quinonez won three races on Saturday to make his win total 11 for the season. Quinonez scored aboard a pair of runners for trainer C.R. Trout with Mighty Tenpins ($11.60 to win) in race two and Shayeville Slew ($7.80 to win) in the fifth race along with taking the ninth with In the Band ($13.60 to win).

The Remington Park Thoroughbred Season will continue on Wednesday, Sept. 22 with a nine-race program at 6:30pm. Racing will also be conducted on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 6:30pm. The Thoroughbred Season concludes Dec. 11.
