MSG PLUS OFFERS LIVE JOCKEY CLUB GOLD CUP DAY COVERAGE

ELMONT, N.Y. – MSG Plus, in partnership with The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA), will offer live coverage of the Grade 1, $750,000 Jockey Club Gold Cup Invitational and the Grade 1, $500,000 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational from Belmont Park on Saturday, October 2 from 5 – 6 p.m. EDT. The telecast will also include coverage of three other prestigious Grade 1 races from Belmont.

The Jockey Club Gold Cup is lining up as one of the best races of the year. Among the expected entrants are Blame, winner of five straight graded races including the Grade 1 Whitney Handicap at Saratoga Race Course in his most recent start, Rail Trip, a multiple graded winner on the West Coast trying conventional dirt for the first time, and Fly Down, runner-up in the Grade 1 Belmont Stakes and the Grade 1 Travers for Hall of Fame trainer Nick Zito.

In addition to the Jockey Club Gold Cup, the broadcast will include live coverage of the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational, featuring the country’s top 3-year-old turf colt Paddy O’Prado taking on his elders for the first time. Winner of the Grade 1 Secretariat and also third-place in the Kentucky Derby, he will face a very competitive group of older males, including Grade 1 winners Interpatation, Telling and Winchester, and the West Coast invader Bourbon Bay, winner of three straight graded stakes races in California.

The live coverage on MSG Plus will begin at 5 p.m. and feature expert race analysis from Jason Blewitt, Eric Donovan, and Andy Serling of NYRA Live. In addition to live coverage of the Jockey Club Gold Cup Invitational and the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational, the broadcast will include coverage of the Beldame, the Flower Bowl Invitational, and the Vosburgh.

MSG Plus’ Jockey Club Gold Cup Day coverage continues a partnership with NYRA that brought live coverage of the 2010 Saratoga meeting, with six “Saturdays at Saratoga” broadcasts. In addition to televising live racing action, MSG Plus currently broadcasts “Belmont Park/Aqueduct/Saratoga in 30,” a daily half-hour race-replay show and “Thoroughbred Weekly,” a weekly half-hour show including timely features and races of the week.
