C J JONES WINS SECOND STRAIGHT RACE OF THE SEASON
OKLAHOMA CITY – A rainy Wednesday due to remnants of tropical storm Hermine, created a sloppy track situation throughout the entire card at Remington Park. The persistent precipitation did not bother C J Jones in the $34,000 allowance feature for Oklahoma-bred fillies and mares as she won her second consecutive race on the season.
Owned by Woody Juels of North Little Rock, Ark. and trained by Kenny Smith, C J Jones pressed the early pace in the 5-1/2 furlong affair under Glen Murphy before taking the lead for good as the field left the backstretch and moved into the lone turn. Once up front, C J Jones stretched her lead to three lengths in the turn and was never seriously threatened, splashing home in 1:04.70.
Novel Legacy made a belated bid from the back of the pack to get within a length of C J Jones at the end while Sophia’s Jewel was another 9-1/4 lengths behind in third.
The wagering favorite at 6-5 odds, C J Jones paid $4.40 to win, $3.40 to place and $2.80 to show. Novel Legacy paid $3.60 to place and $3.20 to show. Sophia’s Jewel returned $4.80 to show.
The win was the third from six career starts for C J Jones, all three of them at Remington Park. She is a 3-year-old filly by Pikepass from the Louis Quatorze mare Miss Norma. The $19,815 earned for the win on Wednesday boosted her career total to $63,923.
Racing continues Thursday evening with nine races at 6:30pm.
