BATESVILLE SURGES TO TURF SPRING SCORE, ZIMMERMAN WINS THREE

OKLAHOMA CITY – Batesville improved in his second start of the Remington Park season, scoring in Friday’s $28,500 allowance feature over the turf at five furlongs.

Owned by Marc Lowrance, Jr. of Fort Worth, Texas and trained by Danny Pish, Batesville had finished second in his initial outing of the season last month while facing similar company on the turf at the same distance. Just over three weeks later, Batesville’s performance took him to the winner’s circle as he came from just off the pace to win under Chris Landeros.

A 4-year-old gelding, Batesville rallied from fifth position in the field of 10 with a quarter-mile left over the firm turf. He made the lead and sprinted clear by two lengths in the stretch before making the finish just ahead of a closing Uno Ducksy to win by a head. Rich Elm was another length back in third.

Batesville, the 8-5 wagering favorite, covered the distance in :56.75 seconds. He paid $5.20 to win, $3.80 to place and $2.80 to show. Uno Ducksy returned $9.60 to place and $5 to show. Rich Elm paid $4.20 to show.

The victory was the third from 23 career attempts for Batesville, a Kentucky-bred son of City Zip from the Forest Wildcat mare Betcha Can Hula. He posted his first victory in seven lifetime attempts at Remington Park. The first-place check of $16,875 Friday night, runs his overall earnings to $46,385.

Jockey Ramsey Zimmerman posted a riding triple Friday, making it two consecutive race nights that a jockey has won three at Remington Park.

Zimmerman’s hat trick came aboard Finer Physique ($3 to win) in the second race, Satis ($4.20) in the third and Little Wagon ($7.60) in the fifth. The triple gives Zimmerman 11 wins for the season, moving into a tie for third-place in the rider standings.

Leading jockey Cliff Berry, won three races on the Thursday program to begin the streak of successive evenings of riders winning at least three in a card. Berry has 15 wins to sit atop the colony with Bryan McNeil in second with 12.

The Remington Park racing week concludes with a nine-race program Saturday at 6:30pm. The normal weekly racing schedule for the Thoroughbred Season is Wednesday thru Saturday.
