YADDO (NYB) QUOTES

Rick Violette, winning trainer of Meriweather Jessica (No. 1): “I touted this filly all week. I loved her.  She breezed a mile the other day very nicely, so that laid to rest any concerns about her getting a mile and a eighth. Alan had a perfect trip, and when we drew the rail I thought that would be a huge asset.  Every time they came to her she spurted away. She ran the last eighth in :11 and change, so that’s as good as anybody could ask for. I might get braver with her, she’s gorgeous and truly a nice mare. We might pick an open spot; she deserves to win a graded race.”

Alan Garcia, winning jockey aboard Meriwether Jessica (No. 1): “My filly broke very well. She was in the position I wanted her to be, right there with the speed, because that’s the way the track was playing. Every time I asked her, she responded well. On the backside, I had to make a little move to be in the clear; after that it was all her.”
