SELECTIVE KEEPS PERFECT MONEY RECORD IN TACT, CRUISING TO EASY WIN
OKLAHOMA CITY – Selective easily handled her foes in Thursday’s $28,500 allowance feature at Remington Park, rolling to a solid 4-1/4 length win with plenty in reserve.
Owned by Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC of Las Vegas, Nev. and trained by Steve Asmussen, Selective took control of the six-furlong event midway through the lone turn under Aaron Gryder. The 4-year-old filly was never threatened after making the front in the field of eight, gliding home without encouragement from her rider.
The coupled entry of Successful Slew and Sundayville Break, both from the barn of owner/trainer C.R. Trout, ran second and third, separated by 1-1/4 lengths.
The heavy wagering favorite at 4-5 odds, Selective paid $3 to win, $2.20 to place and $2.10 to show. She has never finished worse than third in her seven career starts, now boasting two victories. The Kentucky-bred daughter of Tapit earned $16,965 in taking her Remington Park debut to push her career total to $89,734.
The win with Selective was the second of the evening for Asmussen and Gryder, who also teamed up to score with Badness ($4.40 to win) in race three. Asmussen is now the lone leader in the trainer standings with five wins, two better than Bret Calhoun and Allen Milligan.
Jockey Bryan McNeil continued his hot start to the season, posting a riding double on Thursday with Mokalata ($6) in race five and Daughtry ($8.80) in race seven. McNeil’s pair of wins moved him into a tie for the lead in the rider standings with Cliff Berry as each has six triumphs. Berry posted one win on the card Thursday with Webcast ($8.20) in race four.
Remington Park opens daily at 10am for simulcast racing and casino gaming. Live racing continues Friday at 6:30pm.
