THOROUGHBRED SEASON OPENS IN 10 DAYS, HORSE POPULATION CONTINUES TO GROW
OKLAHOMA CITY – The 2010 Remington Park Thoroughbred Season begins in 10 days on Thursday, Aug. 19. Preparations are ongoing as horsemen ready their athletes for the 67-date session.
The Remington Park stable area continues to fill with horses moving in for the season. Over 1,000 horses are currently on the grounds as occupancy moves closer to capacity.
The Remington Park racing office will close nominations for the first two stakes races of the season on Thursday, Aug. 12 compiling lists of eligible horses for the $200,000 Remington Park Sprint Cup and the $150,000 Governor’s Cup; both races will be contested on Saturday, Aug. 21.
The Opening Night racing program will be assembled this Saturday, Aug. 14 as entries are taken for the first card of the season. The top three races offered in the condition book for Aug. 19 include a $31,200 maiden event for 2-year-old Oklahoma-bred fillies and two races worth $28,500 each, an open company allowance and an optional allowance for fillies and mares.
Daily average racing purses for the horses and horsemen in competition are projected at $210,000 this season. The season’s headline event is the $400,000 Oklahoma Derby on Sunday, Oct. 10.the only Sunday of racing this fall.
Remington Park fans can win $500 in Cash by playing the races during the first three nights of the season. Drawings for the $500 in Cash will begin starting after race 3 and continue thru the end of live racing. Fans simply use their Lucky Circle Card as they wager on Remington Park live racing to be eligible.
Live racing will begin at 6:30pm for all three nights of Opening Weekend, Aug. 19-21.
