NEW YORK STALLION SERIES STATUE OF LIBERTY DIVISION QUOTES

Linda Rice, winning trainer of In Te Domine (No. 4):  “When they put up the half in :50 I was a little concerned that she wouldn’t have enough pace to close into, but she is a quality filly and she is just learning to run.  I ran her seven furlongs at Belmont because I needed her to learn to rate a little bit. She had run well on this course last year, so today I wasn’t really concerned about the mile and one-sixteenth distance, but I was concerned about the lack of pace in the race. It worked out though.  Last year we won this race with Mother Russia, so it was really nice to win it again for another group of local guys [Blackout Racing Stables and Lawrence Zyra].  They are really nice people and this is the first horse I bought for them, so it was really great.  I think we will head her for another New York-bred stake here at the end of the meet.”

Ramon Dominguez, winning jockey aboard In Te Domine (No. 4): “She can be a little strong and she has shown that, even with one turn at Belmont and today especially, being the first time she’s gone two turns all year.  They really didn’t go all that fast in front but it wasn’t pretty.  I was basically pulling her up from the time that we left the gate to the quarter pole.  I was very pleased and very surprised as to how well she responded in the last part because I really fought her pretty much the whole way.  I had no choice because if I got her clear at any part of the race she would have run off with me. I was happy to feel I still had some horse in the bridle – it was surprising to me after three-quarters of a mile with a really, really good hold on her.  But like I said, I didn’t think I had much of a choice at that point; I was just hoping for the best.  I was at her mercy and I really give her a lot of credit.”
