Charity Softball Game brings to the plate Local Celebrities and Saratoga Race Course Jockeys
Saratoga County's Hometown radio station, Star 101.3 FM will host a fun game between the Jockey and Area Personalities
(Saratoga Springs, New York) - Star 101.3 FM is hosting a charity softball game between the Saratoga Race Course Jockeys and local celebrities on Monday, August 30th at East Side Recreation Park in Saratoga Springs. The event will begin at 7pm with your announcer for the night, Star 101.3's Ric Mitchell. The National Anthem will be sung by WRGB talent, Jerry Gretzinger.
Eddie Brown, NYRA Assistant Clerk of Scales, will be the head coach of the jockeys. The Jockeys participating include Javier Castellano, Cornelio Velasquez, Eibar Coa, Pito Rosa, Mike Luzzi, Channing Hill, Kent Desormeaux, Victor Santiago, Mike Farela, Johnny Velazquez, Angel Cordero, Rajiv Maragh, and David Cohen.
The jockeys will play against a team of Capital Region notables. Saratoga Springs Mayor, Scott Johnson will be their honorary coach. Game players include Brianne Young and Walt Adams of Star 101.3; Jason Gough and Bob Kovachick of News Channel 13; Joe Calderone and Marissa Jacques of YNN; Randy Simons and Chris Gloninger of CBS 6; Jamie Seh and Andy Gregorio of News 10; Danielle Stein and Walt McClure of Fox 23 News; YMCA CEO, Jim Letz; Saratoga Convention and Tourism Bureau President, Todd Garafano; Saratoga County Chamber President, Todd Shimkus; Saratoga Downtown Business Association President, Jeff Clark; Ed Lewi Associates President, Mark Bardack; NYRA Director of Communications, Dan Silver; and NYRA Marketing Representative, Nick Aquilino. Luke Romano, a 16-year-old who has been battling leukemia for the past 6 years, will be throwing out the honorary first pitch.
This annual event will support the Permanently Disabled Jockey Fund.
Tickets are $5 for adults, $2 for kids under 12. The first 100 paid adult admissions will receive a commemorative T-shirt. There will be raffle prizes, and food and beverages from Mike's Hot Dogs and Ben and Jerry's. Gates open at 6 p.m. with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. There will be a meet and greet opportunity following the game with all jockeys and players.
PDJF is a 501(c)(3) public charity that provides financial assistance to former jockeys who have suffered catastrophic on-track injuries.
