BATTLE OF THE SEXES SET FOR RED EARTH STAKES SATURDAY

OKLAHOMA CITY – The sole stakes offering this week at Remington Park has shaped up to be a dandy with talented stakes-winning females taking on the past two winners of the $50,000 Red Earth Stakes on Saturday night.

Peach Brew, a graded winner last year as a 3-year-old who won the Oklahoma Classics Distaff before a solid third in the Remington Park Oaks here, moves back to Oklahoma City looking for her first win of 2010. Owned by Robert Zoellner of Tulsa, Okla. and trained by Donnie Von Hemel, Peach Brew drew the number four post position in a full field of 12 for the Red Earth, a 7-1/2 furlong turf affair for Oklahoma-breds. Jockey Quincy Hamilton has the riding assignment.

Joining ranks with Peach Brew for the females against the males is the speedy 5-year-old mare Skedee. Owned by the Ringwood, Okla. partnership of Robert Poteet and John & Mary Lowder, Skedee excelled locally a year ago in winning both the Oklahoma Classics Filly & Mare Turf and the Ladies on the Lawn Stakes, each against state-breds. Trained by Mary Lowder, Skedee will be ridden by Chris Landeros who returns this week from a suspension he received while racing this summer at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas.

Ti Township and Strategic Leader, the two most recent winners of the Red Earth, are on the side of the males along with many other deserving runners.

Owned by the Chicago partnership of Coby Tresner and Charles Jennings, Ti Township has won eight races in his career at Remington Park. Trained by Allen Milligan, the 7-year-old Ti Township has been a popular horse in recent years, claimed four times since 2008. The versatile gelding will be ridden by Cliff Berry who will be aboard for the first time. Chris Landeros rode Ti Township to victory in last year’s Red Earth.

Strategic Leader, winner of the Red Earth in 2008 is seeking his 10th career win, all but one of them have taken place over the Remington Park turf course. Owned by H and S Farms of Tulsa, Okla., the 7-year-old gelding is now trained by Roger Engel and is seeking his first victory since scoring in last year’s Oklahoma Classics Turf. Ramsey Zimmerman will have the call for the first time in the Red Earth.
