C J JONES WAKES UP TO WIN FIRST IN OVER A YEAR, MURPHY RIDES 3 WINNERS

OKLAHOMA CITY – C J Jones won her very first career race over a year ago at Remington Park. Friday night, she managed her second lifetime score, returning to a track she obviously likes.

Owned by Woody Juels of North Little Rock, Ark. and trained by Kenny Smith, C J Jones won the final race on the program, a $33,200 allowance for Oklahoma-bred fillies and mares going six furlongs. Under jockey Glen Murphy, C J Jones battled for the lead immediately, gaining the advantage before the lone turn. The 3-year-old filly was in control in the stretch but had to endure a furious rally late from Lucky Lipstick to win by a head in 1:11.49 over the fast track.

C J Jones was 7-2 in the wagering and paid $9.40 to win, $4.80 to place and $5.20 to show. Lucky Lipstick settled for the runner-up spot and paid $12 to place and $4 to show. Shania Twang was along for third, over four lengths behind the top two, paying $8.80 to show.

The trifecta (nos.5-4-1) paid $1,137.60.

The win was the second from five attempts for C J Jones, a daughter of Pikepass from the Louis Quatorze mare Miss Norma. The win was worth $19,270 to her, pushing her overall bankroll to $44,108.

The win aboard C J Jones was the third on the night for Murphy who ascended to the head of the jockey standings after two nights of racing. He also scored with Gold Niner ($13 to win) in race three and Chanel Number Mine ($38.80) in the sixth race.

The riding triple gives Murphy a total of three for the young season, leading three other riders who have two wins each.

Trainer Allen Milligan won a pair of races Friday, in back-to-back fashion with Ashlee’s Empire ($14.20) in race five and Chanel Number Mine. He now has three wins for the season, leading defending titleist Steve Asmussen who is second with two victories.

The $200,000 Remington Park Sprint Cup and the $150,000 Governor’s Cup are featured Saturday night as the Opening Weekend of the Thoroughbred Season wraps. Jockey Calvin Borel, winning rider in three of the last four Kentucky Derbies, will be in to ride favored Atta Boy Roy in the Sprint Cup.

Fans can win $500 in cash giveaways beginning after race three and continuing for the rest of the card on Saturday night. Remington Park opens at 10am for casino gaming and simulcast racing Saturday with live racing beginning at 6:30pm.
