- All contestants begin with a $500 mythical bankroll.
- Contestants must wager all of the $500 mythical bankroll (any mythical winnings are not eligible to be wagered).
- There is a $50 minimum for any wager placed.
- Types of wagers to use for the contest are Win, Place, Show, Exacta, and Quinella.
- Contestants must wager on each of the three races designated for the contest.
- All Wagers must be accepted before the beginning of the 5th race. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
- If there is a late scratch and the contestant does not have time to change their wager, the contestant will receive the post time favorite to win in the amount of their wager for that race.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Three lucky fans will receive their very own “call to the mutuel window” from Sam the Bugler with the chance to challenge the illustrious Saratoga staple in the “Beat the Bugler” Celebrity Handicapping Contest on Wednesday, August 4.
Three randomly selected fans on Wednesday will each receive a $500 fictitious bankroll to wager as they please on races five through seven. The fan with the highest bankroll after the seventh race will receive a $1,000 cash grand prize. The second and third place contestants will receive $500 and $250, respectively.
Additionally, each of the participants will have their wagers stacked up against Sam’s selections to see whose picks come out on top. Prizes will automatically be doubled if the fan beats the bugler.
Racing fans can enter to win the chance to “Beat the Bugler” on Wednesday, August 4 before 2 p.m. at the Grandstand and Paddock Information Booths and the Shake Shack, Blue Smoke and The Paddock Bar area. Entry is limited to the first 10,000 patrons; one entry per person.
Three fans will be chosen to compete against Sammy following the third race. Winners must be present to participate in the contest and will need to report to the Grandstand Information Booth on the first floor by 3 p.m. to solidify their spot in the tournament.
