ARLINGTON PARK ANNOUNCES RESUMPTION OF TRACKSIDE OFF-TRACK BETTING

HANDICAPPING SEMINARS AND CONTESTS

Tour to Offer Handicapping Seminars and Contests Awarding Las Vegas/HWS Trips

 

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (Aug. 26, 2010) – Beginning in the fall of 2008, Arlington Park exported its popular handicapping seminars and handicapping contests to its Trackside Off Track Betting facilities.  Due to the steadily-increasing success of that venture, Arlington will continue the Trackside Tours this fall.

 

“We wanted to make some of the attractions of our live meet available during the off-season to fans who frequent our Trackside off-track betting locations,” explained Gil Carmichael, Director of OTB Operations for Arlington Park.  “We had a great fan response when we combined a pre-race seminar with an afternoon handicapping contest for an activity-filled Saturday at each parlor.

 

“To accomplish our goals, we enlisted the services of M. Scott McMannis,” continued Carmichael.  “Scott has been well-known for 30 years as an accomplished handicapper, writer, and teacher of handicapping, as well as a handicapping contest coordinator.  He is the right fit for what we want to do.”

 

McMannis is the Expert’s Selections handicapper for the Arlington’s web site, arlingtonpark.com, and is the Midwest Correspondent for The HorsePlayer Magazine.   He is also the owner-publisher of Arlington Trainer Patterns, Hawthorne Trainer Patterns, and the McMannis Speed & Trip Service Newsletter. 

 

“Arlington’s OTB Tour concept is a great idea,” assessed McMannis.  “We offer some handicapping education, along with selections, in the pre-race handicapping seminar, then I am available all afternoon to answer questions and for follow-up discussions.

 

“Plus, every Saturday afternoon we feature a handicapping contest with a very generous prize structure,” McMannis continued.  “For example, the top finisher every Saturday will win a trip to Las Vegas to compete in next February’s Coast Casinos Horse Player World Series (HWS) handicapping tournament where the top prize is estimated to be $250,000.  That means Arlington will be giving away nine such trips this fall – I know of no other sponsor offering so much in a contest that is free to enter.”

 

The Trackside Tour for this fall will begin on the first Saturday in October and will continue for eight Saturdays with a Tour stop at a different Trackside facility each Saturday.  Fans are encouraged to join the Tour and partake in as many Saturdays as possible to take advantage of each opportunity to win a trip to Las Vegas.  A complete Tour schedule will be announced soon giving the date and Trackside location for each Tour stop.

 

In the interim, fans are reminded that three more trips to Las Vegas and the HWS will be awarded in the three handicapping contests remaining in the current Arlington meet.  The Arlington Handicapping Challenge (AHC) series has a contest this Saturday, August 28, and one each on Saturday, September 11, and Saturday, September 25.  For more information go to Arlington’s web site, arlingtonpark.com.
