ADIRONDACK (G2) QUOTES

Todd Pletcher, winning trainer of Position Limit (No. 8): “I thought it went very well. She was able to secure a good position and delivered a kick when needed. It was what we had hoped for. At the top of the stretch, I thought we had the momentum, and I would have been disappointed had she not finished it off. We’ll see how she comes out of this; right now she is likely for the Frizette [Grade 1, Belmont Park, October 9].”

John Velazquez, winning jockey aboard Position Limit (No. 8): “It set up perfect for her. We had a good position – she broke well, allowing us to sit in a spot where we were comfortable. I was slightly nervous, though, when I came up behind Baffert’s horse [Alienation] because it looked like she was going pretty easy. So I had to take a different strategy and move a little earlier than I wanted to. But as soon as I caught up with her, I knew I had her. Basically once I got her going, she won easy.”

Bob Baffert, trainer of runner-up Alienation (No. 4): “She was a little late switching leads. She’s still learning how to run, but I think she handled the dirt all right. The winner is a good filly. It was a pretty fast pace, but [Garcia] didn’t have a choice. We want to win, but I’m happy with her effort. She was the second choice and she came in second.”

Martin Garcia, rider aboard runner-up Alienation (No. 4): “My filly is really fast, and I think she needed that race. She hadn’t run for a while [since breaking her maiden on the turf at Hollywood Park July 5] and it was six and a half furlongs today. But, she’s a really good filly. She handled the dirt very well. The fractions for a 2-year-old were really fast, but I didn’t take a hold of her because I didn’t want to fight. She looked like she’s improved a lot, and I think she’ll improve more. She’s just a baby, still green.”

James Lawrence, II, trainer of third-place finisher Coax Liberty (No. 7): “I thought she held her own. The jockey said she was a little green with the sand in her face, but she split horses and she came on. She did everything we asked her to do except win. There are bigger things coming up this fall. We are definitely considering the Spinaway [Grade 1, September 5, Saratoga] if she comes back well.”

Jose Caraballo, jockey aboard third-place finisher Coax Liberty (No. 7): “She had a good trip. At first she wasn’t used to running into the dirt. She’s never had that much dirt in her face. She didn’t know what to do about it. Then in the middle of the turn she started figuring it out. Once she got used to it, she didn’t mind it. She made a nice run down the stretch. It was a really quick pace and I think that if she goes a little further she’ll be better; she just needs more distance.”
