HORSES MOVE IN TO REMINGTON PARK STABLE AREA, THOROUGHBRED SEASON OPENS IN 1 MONTH
OKLAHOMA CITY – The 2010 Remington Park Thoroughbred Season begins in just one month. Today, preparations are underway for horsemen as they arrive with their athletes.
A steady influx of horse vans and trailers carrying the season’s future winners have entered the Remington Park stable grounds this morning on the first day trainers are allowed to ready their barns for racing. The 67-day Thoroughbred Season begins Aug. 19 and continues thru Dec. 11.
Horses will be allowed on the racing surface for the first time tomorrow morning as training and workouts start at 6am.
As the barn area continues to fill this week, work continues on the Remington Park facility and grounds. A facelift of the grandstand, paddock building and gardens, infield tote board and more will progress as the season approaches. The results will provide a fresh new look with upgrades in amenities for all Remington Park guests, elevating the entertainment experience.
Global Gaming Solutions took over as Remington Park’s new owner on New Year’s Day and continues to move full speed ahead to improve the property.
“This renewed effort to return Remington Park back to being a point of pride for all Oklahomans is exciting,” said Remington Park president and general manager Scott Wells. “Truthfully, the new ownership group has done more for Remington Park in six months than anyone else has done in 20 years.”
Daily average purses for the horses and horsemen in competition this season are projected at $210,000. The headline event of the season is the $400,000 Oklahoma Derby on Sunday, Oct. 10, the only Sunday of racing this fall.
The Remington Park Thoroughbred racing schedule will normally be conducted on a Wednesday thru Saturday night basis for the first time in track history. Regular first race post time is 6:30pm.
