DOMINGUEZ, PLETCHER, DUBB TOP BELMONT MEET

 

ELMONT, N.Y. – Ramon Dominguez won his ninth straight riding title on The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) circuit and Todd Pletcher topped the trainer standings Sunday at the conclusion of Belmont Park’s Spring/Summer Meet.

 

Dominguez, the nation’s leading rider, finished the meet with 73 winners, 23 more than runner-up Javier Castellano, while Pletcher saddled 25 winners for his 22nd

NYRA meet training title. Gary Contessa finished second with 21 winners among trainers.

 

Michael Dubb was the leading owner with 15 winners, taking his first meet title.

 

Dominguez, 33, began his streak of meet titles nearly 18 months ago, winning Aqueduct’s 2008-09 Inner Track Meet (124 victories), followed by the 2009 Aqueduct Spring Meet (29), the 2009 Belmont Spring/Summer Meet (98), the 2009 Saratoga Meet (45), the 2009 Belmont Fall Championship Meet (39), the 2009 Aqueduct Fall Meet (38), 2009-2010 Aqueduct Inner Track Meet (109) and the Aqueduct Spring Meet (27).

 

Nationally, through Sunday, Dominguez ranked first in wins with 204 and first in purses earned ($8.1 million). Pletcher was first in purses earned among trainers with $12.9 million and second in races won with 159.  

 

With the conclusion of Belmont Park’s Spring/Summer Meet, racing moves to Saratoga Race Course beginning Friday, July 23, for the newly expanded 40-day meet that runs through Labor Day, Monday, September 6.
