TRUE NORTH QUOTES

Todd Pletcher, winning trainer of Bribon (No. 3) and third-place finisher Checklist (No. 8): “I thought with Quality Road going to the Met Mile, it could open a lot of options for Bribon. He had won at 6 and 7 [years old] and he’s just a very versatile horse.

“I thought Checklist ran huge. I think the track may not be real speed-favoring.

“The Vanderbilt [Grade 1, 6 furlongs, August 8 at Saratoga Race Course] is a possibility for both [Checklist and Bribon]; we’ll play it by ear.”

Garrett Gomez, winning jockey aboard Bribon (No. 3): “There were quite a few horses with speed and I just needed to find a place for him to settle into a simple rhythm and then quicken when I asked him. The only concern was that he’d never run shorter than a mile. He picked them up with ease and came home with ease – just the way you'd like.”

Bill Mott, trainer of second-place finisher Snapshot (No. 5): “My horse ran very, very well. The pace scenario didn’t affect him all that much, but he still ran a super race.”

Kent Desormeaux, rider aboard second-place finisher Snapshot (No. 5): “He definitely stuck his neck out He saw [Bribon] and was going to try and beat him.”

John Velazquez, rider aboard third-place finisher Checklist (No. 8): “That’s where he wanted to be – on the lead – but he didn’t come with any fight at the end.”
