CHAMBERLAIN BRIDGE TOPS ARLINGTON SPRINT

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (June 23, 2010) – Carl Moore Management’s Chamberlain Bridge, runner-up in last year’s edition of the Arlington Sprint, headlines a field of six entered for this year’s renewal of the 5 ½-furlong turf dash.  The Arlington Sprint was shortened from six furlongs and moved to the turf for the first time last year after having previously been contested as a main track event.

The $125,000 Arlington Sprint, which includes $50,000 from the Breeders’ Cup Fund for eligible horses, has been selected as one of the Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” Challenge Races.  The winner of the Arlington Sprint will be entitled to automatic entry in the 2010 running of the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint subject to the payment of all pre-entry, entry and supplementary (if applicable) fees.  This year’s Breeders’ Cup World Championships will he held Nov. 5-6 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky.

A son of War Chant, Chamberlain Bridge just missed winning last year’s local Sprint when he came up a neck short to Yankee Injunuity after having a lead late in the race.  Since that effort, the Bret Calhoun-trained gelding has remained competitive in grass dashes including scores in the $250,000 Turf Monster Handicap at Philadelphia Park last September and in the $60,000 Colonel Power at the Fair Grounds in February.  Last time out, the 6-year-old finished second, beaten only a neck by Silver Timber, in the Grade III Turf Sprint at Churchill on Kentucky Oaks Day April 30.  Jaime Theriot has been named to ride.

Calhoun also sends out James & Marilyn Helzer’s Euroears for Saturday’s headliner.  The son of Langfuhr returns to the turf after finishing third in the Grade III Lone Star Park Handicap on dirt at 1 1/16 miles in Texas on May 31.  He has had somewhat recent success sprinting, winning the $60,000 Thanksgiving Handicap last November.  The 6-year-old horse is two for two at the distance and is two for three on turf.  Former Arlington Park riding champion Shane Sellers makes his first appearance in Chicago since coming out of retirement last year.

Fox Hill Farms’ Sacred Journey invades from the east after posting a second-place finish in the $50,000 Turf Sprint at Pimlico during Preakness Week.  Trained by Anthony Dutrow, the son of Unbridled’s Song will be ridden by Ramon Dominguez.

Also of note in the race is Miracle Logistics’ Moralist, a two-time victor in the Honor the Hero Turf Express Stakes at Canterbury Park in Minnesota.  The locally based son of Talk is Money is trained by Tammy Domenosky and will be ridden Saturday by Brandon Meier.

Completing the field for the Arlington Sprint (with riders named) are: Mary Hohensee’s Bullet from Abroad (Inez Karlsson) and Louie J. Roussel III’s Mambo Galliano.

Arlington Park – the Chicago area’s premier Thoroughbred racetrack located in Arlington Heights, Ill. – will run a 91-day meet in 2010 from Thursday, April 29 through Sunday, Sept. 26. Arlington Park, whose parent company is Churchill Downs Incorporated (Nasdaq: CHDN), also operates 11 off-track, simulcast-wagering facilities – Trackside Arlington Park (Arlington Heights), Trackside Chicago, Trackside Quad City Downs (East Moline), Trackside Waukegan, Shooters Bar & Grill at Don Carter Lanes featuring Trackside Rockford, Fat Sam’s Bar & Grill featuring Trackside OTB in Lockport, Lucky’s featuring Trackside OTB in South Elgin, Nicolino’s featuring Trackside OTB in McHenry, Tad’s Sports Bar & Grill featuring Trackside OTB in South Beloit, Salerno-Pincente Ristorante featuring Trackside OTB in Hodgkins and Sundance Saloon featuring Trackside OTB in Waukegan.  Information on Arlington Park can be found online at www.arlingtonpark.com.
