ARLINGTON PARK ANNOUNCES NEW HANDICAPPING CONTEST

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (June 2, 2010) – Arlington Park has scheduled a new handicapping contest for its menu of contests being offered during the 2010 meet.  Dubbed the Double-Triple, the new tournament will take place over two days and will award top prizes of three trips to Las Vegas.

The Double-Triple is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, July 17 and 18.  That weekend was chosen since July 17 is Million Preview Day and features the major prep races for Million Day, Aug. 21, when Arlington will present its premier Grade I races – the Arlington Million, the Beverly D., and the Secretariat.

“The Double-Triple actually replaces a handicapping contest originally scheduled for that weekend,” explained M. Scott McMannis, coordinator of Arlington’s Handicapping Seminar and Contest Program.  “The Double-Triple is especially appealing since it is offered as an adjunct to this summer’s Arlington Handicapping Challenge series of one-day contests.  Our regular contest players will want to know that points earned in the Double-Triple will be added to the player’s total in the summer cumulative standings.”

The Double-Triple, like all Arlington handicapping contests, is free to enter and features a live-money format.  In the case of the Double-Triple, each contestant establishes a $300 bankroll and seeks to run his contest account balance up as high as possible, just like any day at the races.

“We have purposely made this tournament as close to the real experience as possible,” added McMannis.  “We have minimized restrictions and maximized flexibility.  The contest is wide open, what with the player being allowed to wager into any open pool.”

The top three finishers in the Double-Triple can win a trip to Las Vegas to compete in the February, 2011, Coast Casinos Horse Player World Series (HWS) handicapping tournament where the top prize is estimated to be $250,000.  In addition to paying entry fees into the HWS for the top three, Arlington will pay for lodging, provide travel vouchers and award prize money.

“This tourney also has appeal for contest players coming from out of town,” McMannis pointed out.  “With three berths in the HWS at stake, and no entry fee, players from around the country are expressing interest and signing up.  In many cases they are coming with friends who also will be contestants, or with family.  With Chicago being so easy to travel to, and with Arlington being near the airport, an extended-weekend, working vacation makes sense.”

Advance registration is open now.  Go to arlingtonpark.com for more information, including contest rules, and to register.  Questions can be emailed to contests@arlingtonpark.com
