WAGER ON SUPER SAVER’s TRIPLE CROWN QUEST IN
SATURDAY’S PREAKNESS AT all otb locations
Retired Riding Legend Randy Romero at
NEW ORLEANS (Thursday, May 13, 2010) – The Triple Crown quest of Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver and Louisiana-born jockey Calvin Borel in the Preakness Stakes will be front and center Saturday at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots, as well as all 10 Fair Grounds OTB & Casino locations throughout Southeast Louisiana. The 135th running of one of racing’s most coveted prizes will be featured on flat-screen monitors throughout all Fair Grounds venues and a full wagering menu will be offered on the robust 13-race program.
Gates at Fair Grounds and all Fair Grounds OTBs open early Saturday at 9:15 a.m. CDT, a half-hour prior to Pimlico Race Course’s first post at 9:45 a.m. CDT. The seven stakes races on the Pimlico card and their large, competitive fields make for one of the most attractive wagering programs of the year, culminating with the Preakness at 5:05 p.m. CDT.
Advance wagering on the Preakness Day card will open Friday morning. A special Black-Eyed Susan and Preakness Stakes double also will be offered Friday.
Super Saver, who won his first race of 2010 in the Kentucky Derby under a heady ride by Borel, drew post position No. 8 and was installed as the morning line 5-2 favorite for the middle jewel of the Triple Crown. The 3-1 second choice is beaten Kentucky Derby favorite Lookin at Lucky, who finished sixth in the Run for the Roses after being shuffled back at the break. Other
New challengers in the 13-horse field include Bob Lewis Stakes winner Caracortado (10-1), Tampa Bay Derby runner-up Schoolyard Dreams (15-1), Florida Derby runner-up Pleasant Prince (20-1), Blue Grass Stakes third First Dude (20-1), Illinois Derby runner-up Yawanna Twist (30-1) and Fair Grounds veteran Northern Giant (30-1).
