SPOTLIGHT ON BLACKSMITHS

ELMONT, N.Y. – The seventh installment of The New York Racing Association, Inc.’s (NYRA) “Spotlight Series” is now available on demand at NYRA.com and profiles blacksmiths Fred Sullerberg and Michael Vinas.

In the video, Sullerberg and Vinas discuss how they became blacksmiths, the equipment they use, and the process of changing shoes on a horse. In addition, trainer Richard Schosberg talks about how blacksmiths can affect a horse’s performance.

Created to give racing fans a behind the scenes look at the people who help NYRA racing operate smoothly on a consistent basis, previous “Spotlight Series” videos have featured Tim Kelly and Ed Brown, the clerk of scales and assistant clerk of scales, track announcer Tom Durkin, paddock judge Neal Cutrone, the NYRA Stewards and Clockers, and Horse Identifier Janet Reid.

All seven of the “Spotlight Series” videos can be viewed online at http://www.nyra.com/nyraspotlight/nyraspotlight.html and at NYRA’s official YouTube site.
