Skipat Stakes

Lights Off Annie Slips Clear In Skipat Stakes.

BALTIMORE, 05-14-10 – Repole Stable’s Lights Off Annie took the short way home Friday at Pimlico Race Course with a ground-saving, front-running victory in the $70,000 Skipat Stakes.

Six older fillies and mares went to post in the six-furlong Skipat and Lights Off Annie left the gate as the even-money favorite. Rajiv Maragh was aboard the winner, who was clocked in a swift 1:10.33 for the distance while winning by 5-1/2 lengths. Streetscape finished second and Beware of the Bop was third.

Lights Off Annie, who paid $4, is trained by Michael Hushion at Belmont Park. A six time winner, the chestnut mare can now add the Skipat to her stakes resume, which includes victories in the last two runnings of the Broadway Stakes, both contested at Aqueduct.

Skipat Stakes Quotes

Grant Wolfram (assistant to winning trainer Michael Hushion, Lights Off Annie) – “That was pretty much the game plan. Rajiv got away from there in good order. The scratches helped. Without as much speed in there, he could kind of dictate things. It always gives her a little extra kick ant the end when she doesn’t have to work too hard too early.”

Rajiv Maragh (winning jockey, Lights Off Annie) – “It was pretty straight forward. She’s got a lot of natural speed. She wins most of her races on the lead, so the goal was to try to break her good, get her where she’s happy, and everything kind of worked out.
