Ms. Pink Warrior Preakness Stakes

Vindy City Captures Ms. Pink Warrior Preakness Stakes

BALTIMORE, 05-14-10 – Marchfore Thoroughbreds’ Vindy City out-stepped four other 3-year-old fillies to take the $70,000 Ms. Pink Warrior Preakness Stakes Friday at Pimlico Race Course.

Away from the starting gate in fourth under jockey Kendrick Carmouche, the daughter of Vindication took the overland route, moving three wide into the stretch to catch and put away Argent Affair, the frontrunner. Vindy City had enough in the tank to hold safe fast-closing Imanheiress to win by a length.

While winning her third race in four starts, Vindy City ran six furlongs in 1:11.72. She had broken her maiden and finished third in the Brandywine Stakes at Philadelphia last year. Her most recent start was an allowance victory on January 16.

Vindy City, who paid $5 as the favorite, is trained by John Servis, who saddled Kentucky Derby winner Smarty Jones for a victory in the 2004 Preakness Stakes.

Ms. Pink Warrior Preakness Stakes Quotes

John Servis (winning trainer, Vindy City) – “There was a little bit of speed in there and because of that, we decided to try a something a little different with her. Kendrick said that he picked her up going into the turn and she jumped right into the bridle. He said once she did that, he knew he was going to be tough to beat from there.”

Kendrick Carmouche (winning jockey, Vindy City) – “We wanted to take her off the pace and then go to the lead. Our game plan worked. She ran a lot better race than she had been her last three. John Servis is a pretty good trainer off the layoff, and we were aiming toward the race. She was tight and ready.”
