Rainbow View Scores In Gallorette Handicap
BALTIMORE, 05-15-10 – Augustin Stable’s Rainbow View had to zigzag her way through the stretch before emerging with the lead just six jumps from the finish on her way to a half-length victory in Saturday’s $100,000 Gallorette Handicap (Grade 3) at Pimlico.
Ridden to victory by Julien Leparoux, who got back to his winning ways after suffering minor injuries in a spill in Friday’s Black-Eyed Susan Stakes, the Jonathan Sheppard-trained filly covered 1-1/16 miles over the firm turf in 1:41.04. Quiet Meadow finished second, while Ave put in a furious rally from last to finish third.
The Group 1 winner in Ireland paid $3.80 while capturing her first stakes victory in the United States.

Jonathan Sheppard (winning trainer, Rainbow View) – “Everything was great up until about the mid-point on the turn. Then she kind of got jostled around. And even into the stretch, there was a little bit of bumping. She handled it, I thought, very well. (Leparoux) didn’t panic. Some people might have. He’s pretty chilly, Julien. I’m happy to see him back winning after the spill he had yesterday.”
Julien Leparoux (winning jockey, Rainbow View) – “I thought she was comfortable all the way around the track. She kind of checked out a little bit around the quarter-pole. That kind of scared me a little. She finished good. She’s got a very nice kick. She was much the best today.”
Javier Castellano (jockey, Quiet Meadow, 2nd) – “I had a beautiful race, a perfect trip. I saved ground the first turn and the last turn. I think she ran very good. I just think she was second best today. I give a lot of credit to the trainer for having her ready to run the way she did in this race.”
Sue Lorimer assistant Roger Attfield (trainer Ave, 3rd) – “I thought she ran great. Mike said she missed the break a bit and she ran a little spotty, kind of getting used to the North American way of racing. I thought she ran very well. I was very pleased with her.”
Mike Smith (jockey, Ave, 3rd) – “She ran a really good race today, since this is the first time she has run in this country. We just got away really slowly, which often happens with these kinds of horses. We gave the field four or five lengths and she had to make it up. She did and she finished strong. She wants every bit of a mile and an eighth or even further.”
