Arlington Park Stakes Advance: the $100,000 Arlington Classic

WIDE OPEN FIELD ASSEMBLED FOR ARLINGTON CLASSIC

 

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (May 20, 2010) – With a 4-1 morning-line favorite, it is safe to say that Saturday’s 75^th renewal of the $100,000 Arlington Classic is a wide open race. More than half the field has been installed at odds of 6-1 or less in the early odds for the mile and a sixteenth grass race for 3-year-olds.

 

            Getting that 4-1 nod is Abdullah Saeed Almaddah’s Alfarabi.  The Yes It’s True colt invades from Kentucky where he was most recently fifth in the Grade III Transylvania Stakes at Keeneland in April.  Previously, the Eoin Harty trainee picked up minor placings in a pair of overnight stakes in Southern California.  James Graham has the mount.

 

            Glen Hill Farm’s Family Foundation finished third in the Grade III Bourbon at Keeneland last autumn and followed that with a second-place finish in the state-bred restricted $100,000 Appleton Juvenile Turf at Calder Race Course to conclude his freshman season.  In two starts this year, the son of Repriced ran fourth in the restricted Sophomore Turf at Tampa Bay Downs and eighth (beaten only four lengths) in a second-level open allowance at Keeneland.  Jose Lezcano gets the call.

 

            Estrorace LLC’s Workin For Hops looks to rebound from a fifth-place finish in the Grade II American Turf at Churchill Downs.  Earlier this year, the Mike Stidham-trained son of City Zip won the $58,000 Grindstone Stakes at the Fair Grounds.  Robby Albarado has been named to ride.

 

            A trio of runners have been installed at 6-1 odds – Michael Sucher’s Our Champion (Tim Thornton aboard), third in the Grade III Palm Beach Stakes at Gulfstream Park; Mr. & Mrs. A. C. Asbury’s Gleam of Hope (Chris Emigh), third in the Grade III Tampa Bay Derby and sixth in the American Turf in his last two starts; and Gary & Mary West’s Call Shot (Junior Alvarado), third in the $100,000 Dania Beach Stakes in January.

 

            Completing the field for the Arlington Classic (with jockeys named) are: Lothenbach Stables’ Mister Mardi Gras (Eduardo Perez); Mercedes Stables’ Indy Scent (Jesus Castanon); Flying I Ranch & Millard Seldin’s Prairie Breeze (Inocencio Diego); and George Krikorian’s Summer Movie (Michael Baze).

 

            The Arlington Classic serves as the first leg of the Mid-America Triple which will continue with the Grade II $300,000 American Derby on July 17 and conclude with the Grade I $400,000 Secretariat Stakes on Arlington Million Day Aug. 21.
